What About Trump’s Tariffs?
Canada is facing an unprecedented challenge with Donald Trump’s return to power. Not only are he and his oligarch supporters threatening our economy – our very sovereignty is at stake.
Greens support measures by the government and (most) Premiers to defend our nation – but we can do better than dueling tax cuts for the rich. It’s time we invest back into Canadians.
Green Party’s Protecting Canada Plan:
- Establish a multi-billion investment fund to foster Canadian entrepreneurship and ventures through small & medium sized loans
- Create a Federal Strategic Reserve of critical resources, including aluminum, steel, potash, and other key resources to retain and supply key industries and infrastructure investments
- Use Canadian expertise to build a strong East-West electricity grid to connect the country and redivert excess production to parts of Canada, rather than selling it primarily to the US
- Suspend federal subsidies and tax incentives to Canadian corporations with majority US ownership and redirect the money into Canadian-owned corporations
- Provide stable funding for quality Canadian-owned media, and additional support for local news services to compete and prosper in an increasingly varied media market
